Weblate Docker container changes

onte

The official Weblate Docker container just received an important change. In case you are using it, you will probably have to adjust your configuration after upgrade.

The container is no longer executed as root, but as an unprivileged user. This makes it more secure and also compatible with some cloud providers such as OpenShift. However this brings it's downsides as well - the exposed port had to change from the privileged one. This is design the container probably should have from the beginning, but better to fix it later than never.

To make it clear - we've changed port 80 to 8080. Please adjust your configuration accordingly. The documentation and example docker-compose configuration have already been updated.

Weblate 3.7.1

28 de xuño de 2019

Nearly every developer tells you that Friday is the worst day for a release. In Weblate, we have it differently. We have an excellent test environment, and we work through the weekends if it’s needed.

So in today’s 3.7.1 release, these changes are included:

The interface of the localization platform that doesn’t speak your language is weird, so we tuned and updated the Weblate’s interface localization together with some UI tweaks.

We have improved the handling of unsupported but discovered translation files, and updated some parts of the documentation to be more detailed and helpful.

Language database is also updated, so don’t hesitate to update your installation too. Users with our hosting have the latest version already.

Translation finder out in version 1.6!

26 de xuño de 2019

We have a concise message for you today, but it can bring a smile not only on a hot summer day in which you want to leave the office a little bit sooner.

As easy integration and setup are one of the main Weblate's perks, we tuned up the translation finder again. It now detects PHP translation files and handles YAML, POT and JSON formats better in all their modifications. It also discovers subtitle files that came to support with Weblate 3.7.

You can take a look at changelog too.

Enjoy!

Checking real text size and managing fonts in Weblate

26 de xuño de 2019

We have a new feature in Weblate we already mentioned in 3.7 release announcement.

As we want Weblate to be the ideal developers’ partner for localization of their apps, we know that you all need to control the outcome of the translation to make your users happy and the apps convenient. And as you don’t want to check the changes with every new (exotic) language that came from the heartful community or in a new release, we give you these two new settings:

Font management will help you to have a precise size calculation with Max size limitation of the text, you just need to import the TrueType or OpenType fonts you are using. Quite handy for non-Latin languages, right? You will probably use maximum size limitation in apps aimed at small screens such as those for iOS and Android. It is easy to set it up. Just tell Weblate the width limit, number of lines, used font, and its size and the job is done.

How do you like it? If you miss something, you can either write your own checks (make a pull request then) or inspire us to create them for all Weblate users.

Weblate 3.7

21 de xuño de 2019

We have released Weblate 3.7 today, and we are happy to share some of our favorite features that are new in this version. If you want to prefer facts before stories, jump straight to the detailed changelog.

A small change that announces the bigger ones is the new logo, color theme, horizontal stats widgets, landing page for new translators, and more. Changes will continue in the app and also on Weblate website to make both eye-candy and more you/user-friendly. Stay tuned and don't hesitate to tell us how you like it, we’ll be happy to hear!

A new feature that allows you to control text dimensions, font management and its rendering is coming out now, and there will be a separate article here on the blog on Wednesday! This feature will be quite handy not only in mobile apps!

We have speed up the handling of linked translation components so you will save some work time.

A separate Celery queue now handles notifications, format strings check on plurals is more powerful, and error logging includes more details.

3.7 is already running on Hosted Weblate for some time. Did you try it already or are you planning the update on your own hosting this weekend?

We wish you smooth localization and see you soon with next release!
