Do you feel the sweet mood coming? It’s the FOSDEM getting closer! We can’t wait to meet you, our lovely community, in person again. Let’s take a look at what’s in the plan!
Our team, grown larger again since last year, will arrive in Brussels from all the different directions from Tuesday to Thursday. Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you want to meet and discuss new features or anything else Weblate. Here’s the form to let us know, and we are on Mastodon as well, so you can catch us easily during your Brussels days.
The first event planned is our annual informal meetup. Its move to the city center last year really improved accessibility for everyone, so we keep it. Come say hi to the faces new and known. We come together at BrewDog Bruxelles on Friday, 30th January, between 18:30 and 21:30. Please let us know you’re coming in this form, so we can count with you. We can’t wait to meet you—over some fair food and beer, water, lemonade, or any other drink of your choice. Coming in even numbers or quite starving seems reasonable; BrewDog's friendly bundles are described at the links in the form. This meeting is purely informal, focused on getting in the FOSDEM mood together, sharing a smile, and chatting about…anything you like. We will have some swag to share with you as well. If we all feel chatty, we can stay longer. But not too long, we propose; the next event happens right in the morning!
No time on Friday evening? Don’t you worry! You're welcome to come to our stand and chat with us there! Yes, Weblate will have an official, full-version stand on FOSDEM this year, in the F building’s level 1(the only F level with stands). Stop by on the way to the food area or to refill your water bottle! Weblate team members will rotate there, so there will be someone at all times during both days. Aaand splendid T-shirts, a few cuddly hoodies, and stickers await you!
The second of three main Weblate-related attractions planned at the Université Libre de Bruxelles campus, buzzing with the lovely libre energy, is the BoF. Translations and Weblate Birds of a Feather will find their nest on Saturday evening this year—at 17:00 in the room H.3242. This is an on-campus community meeting to talk translation-related and Weblate topics, meet the community, gather feedback, and think out plans.
Lastly, the loveliest event! As we promised last year, we tried. And the outcome is the Translations devroom back in the FOSDEM schedule! Interesting talks will happen on a Sunday afternoon, 13:15-17:00, in the room K.3.401. Everyone is welcome there, no matter the field of skills! This devroom aims to showcase successful approaches in libre localization, community achievements, innovative workflows, tools, and integrations. Members of several communities share their experiences with the localization process from the diverse perspectives of developers, translators, maintainers, and users. Join us, leave inspired, and with new knowledge to boost the localization of your favorite project, or even start it!
That's what we know now! More plans or tiny changes can still happen later, so come back here and see the latest news and edits. Alongside many things, Weblate is currently part of a UX research that will co-define its future looks and feels. We will also toot about our FOSDEM plan and experience on our Mastodon account with #Weblate and #YourSoftwareYourLanguage, and you are welcome to use the hashtags as well; yes, the long one as well, because on Mastodon, it's possible. :)
