Are you surprised by the version number? Did you sleep too long and miss 2021 Weblate releases meanwhile? Don't worry, that did not happen. A lot did change in a short time, though; read on.

Weblate is not jumping versions, so you did not miss anything; we are not a large corporation to peddle gaslighting with virtual evolution and imaginative features. We switched the numbering of versions from now on, having some good reasons for it. CalVer is the new method.

So, the reasons? With accelerating security advisories and fixes in Weblate and many dependencies alike, releasing every other month was simply no longer enough. Below the bar, one could say. You could register that the changelog of recent minor versions got longer than before. And quite often included new features as well. Our team has grown, become more productive, received a little help from the robots, and we just didn't want to wait with releasing what's already been finished and tested.

So, with the switch to CalVer, an admin will instantly see how old their deployment is, and not just them. But do not shame your admins; nudge them to upgrade nicely! With security fixes, new features, and improvements coming every month around the 15th, it no longer makes sense to hold on with updating. Core Weblate values are privacy and security; why leave them behind? Each release now also ties to a specific version of each dependency, raising security and reducing maintenance efforts for everyone. Comfy admins should not experience any inconveniences. Weblate's official Docker container includes everything a Weblate deployment requires, with a simple docker compose pull for any update.

It's an MD, and it has some extras. What is it? Not a doctor, just a fancier version of a Markdown file with some extra features. MDX is the newly added format in this version!

Speaking the abbreviations, how do you like CDN? The Weblate one can serve translation files directly now, not just through JavaScript. If you want to walk around your Git, check the new add-on. File handling also received some additional care with added parameters, because every file can be different, no matter if they share the format.

LLast Major news for this version? Many of the LLM-based translation engines now automatically receive context from Weblate, which should significantly improve the relevancy of provided translations.

That's about it! The full changelog is worth checking if you are interested in the long list of bug fixes, compatibility notes, and upgrading details.

Enjoy! See you in less than a month with 2026.6!
